Phase 1 · Weeks 1–2Frontend foundations
Understand the client–server model and HTTP, set up a full development environment, learn Git and GitHub workflows and build accessible pages with semantic HTML, forms and tables.
Tools: VS Code, Git, GitHub, HTML5
Style with selectors, specificity and typography, build layouts with Flexbox and Grid, apply mobile-first responsive design and use Tailwind CSS. Ends with a responsive landing page pushed to GitHub.
Tools: CSS3, Flexbox, CSS Grid, Tailwind CSS
Phase 2 · Weeks 3–5JavaScript and TypeScript
Learn data types, control flow and functions, everyday array methods, objects and JSON, and DOM manipulation with events to build interactive UI without frameworks.
Tools: JavaScript, DOM
Use modern ES6+ syntax, scope and closures, then master asynchronous JavaScript (the event loop, promises, async/await and the Fetch API) by building an app that consumes a live REST API.
Tools: ES6+, Promises, Fetch API, REST
Add type safety with interfaces, unions, generics, enums, narrowing and utility types, then convert your week-4 API app to TypeScript.
Tools: TypeScript
Phase 3 · Weeks 6–7React
Build single-page apps with components and JSX, props and lists, state and forms with useState, data fetching with useEffect and multi-page navigation with React Router.
Tools: React, React Router
Write custom hooks, manage global state with the Context API, validate forms, build reusable components, type a component tree with TypeScript and start the capstone frontend.
Tools: React, TypeScript, Context API
Phase 4 · Weeks 8–10Backend, database and deployment
Learn Node.js and npm, build servers and routes with Express, design and test REST APIs with Postman, and learn SQL with MySQL, including relationships and joins.
Tools: Node.js, Express, Postman, MySQL
Connect Express to MySQL with Prisma, build a validated CRUD REST API, then implement authentication with bcrypt password hashing, JWT tokens, protected routes and roles.
Tools: Prisma, Zod, JWT, bcrypt
Wire frontend and backend together with CORS, axios and the full auth flow, build and deploy your capstone live, add a GitHub Actions CI/CD pipeline and polish your portfolio for career prep.
Tools: Axios, Vercel / Netlify, Render / Railway, GitHub Actions
